Many readers received an introduction to the books through the films and TV adaptations on French television. The novels were incredibly popular in France in the 50s and 60s, but not all of them were translated into English. In truth though, the books were written largely by Anne, with Serge providing the background research into the life and times of Louis XIV and his court. I am so glad to see more books, including a recap in their sequels, because it can be incredibly challenging to remember all the different plotlines, character names etc. I loved The Shadow of the Gods and gave it 4.5 stars, and was therefore excited when I received an e-arc of this book. They called the police and she was arrested for standing up for what was right. She refused and said she was tired after along day of work. She was the only black passenger who would not give up her seat. ![]() All the other black passengers stood up and moved to give up there seats. ![]() On Septemshe was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person on the bus. In 1943 she joined the Montgomery of cheaper of the NAACP. Once she graduated high school she became active in civil rights. Families who where black couldn’t even buy houses that where for sale. The housing act of 1949 helped soldiers returning from world war 2, but it was only for people who where white they were the only people who get helped by this act. People would get mad if blacks started moving into an “only white” neighborhood. ![]() Even by the 1940s you couldstill find signs that are only white signs. In 1865 they started passing the segregation laws. With the help of her husband she was able to graduate and got her diploma. She had to walk to school everyday because there was no bus and walking was the only way to get there. She attended Industrial School for Girls in Alabama. ![]() |
